Richard Madeley shuts down 'stuff of nightmares' Strictly Come Dancing rumours
This year's series of Strictly Come Dancing ended on Saturday night and saw Coronation Street star Ellie Leach and her pro partner Vito Coppola lift the Glitterball Trophy.
Richard Madeley is asked if he'd do Strictly
Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley has insisted that he will never appear on Strictly Come Dancing calling it the "stuff of nightmares". The veteran presenter was quizzed about it during a discussion about the latest series of the BBC ballroom contest on his ITV show.
The revelation came after entertainment journalist Richard Arnold was talking about the show and the fact that actor Brian Cox had turned down a stint on the dancefloor and he asked the host if would he ever consider joining the show. "I know you can lift your leg up too - you must have it in you," he said.
"Can you see me doing the jive?" He asked incredulously. Arnold said he could and described it as "the stuff of dreams". However, Madeley shut him down saying: "It's the stuff of nightmares."
A mocked-up picture of what the presenter might look like on Strictly, then appeared on screen showing him striking a dramatic dance pose in a ruffled shirt. "Exactly!" he laughed. "I rest my case!"
This isn't the first time he has addressed a possible Strictly appearance on Good Morning Britain.
In 2019, he admitted that he had been asked to do the programme but could not realistically picture himself in Spandex.
“I was talking to a booker from Strictly Come Dancing the other day because, for their folly, sometimes they ask me to go on it and I always say, ‘No’,” he said.
"She was saying that more women celebrities say yes than men, it's much harder to get male celebrities to go and do it. I wouldn't do it because of the jive.
"I cannot conceivably come on in Spandex and Lurex and do the flick kicks, I would look so stupid,” he said.
