What is Love, Death and Robots about?
Love, Death and Robots is the brand new animated anthology series on Netflix for adults.
The series comes from David Fincher, who is best known for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Mindhunter and The Social Network.
Fincher is joined by filmmaker Tim Miller, best known for Deadpool and House of Cards producer Joshua Donen.
There are 18 episodes in total, each ranging from five to 15 minutes in length.
Each episode of Love, Death and Robots was created by different animation filmmakers from around the world, including Hungary, South Korea and France.
As Love, Death and Robots is an anthology series, each episode has its own individual short story featuring werewolf, devils, cyborgs and scenes of violence, romance, horror and comedy.
The Netflix synopsis reads: “Sentient dairy products, rogue werewolf soldiers, robots gone wild, sexy cyborgs, alien spiders and blood-thirsty demons from hell converge in an 185-minute genre orgy of stories not suitable for the mainstream.”
The summary continues: “Terrifying creatures, wicked surprises and dark comedy converse in this NSFW anthology of animated stories presented by Tim Miller and David Fincher.
“The full roster of stories will cover a variety of adult topics including racism, government, war, free will, and human nature.
“The anthology collection spans the science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy genres and each short has a unique animation style: from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI.
“The series draws inspiration from the eclectic and provocative comic book material from the 1970s that influenced both Miller’s and Fincher’s formative interests in storytelling.”
In a statement, Miller said that working on Love, Death and Robots was his “dream project”.
He added: “It combines my love of animation and amazing stories. Midnight movies, comics, books and magazines of fantastic fiction have inspired me for decades, but they were relegated to the fringe culture of geeks and nerds of which I was a part.
“I’m so f****** excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation.”
