BBC News: 'It's quite annoying' Mike Bushell stuns Naga Munchetty with bizarre revelation
BBC NEWS included a rather unusual segment this morning as hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt spoke about a garden gnome factory which was closing down in Germany. As they spoke about the beloved garden feature, Mike Bushell left them taken aback as he made an unexpected revelation.
BBC Breakfast host Naga revealed they would be chatting about garden gnomes on the show today, explaining: “Why am I talking about garden gnomes?
“Because one of Europe’s last traditional manufacturers of garden gnomes could be closing its doors.
“The owner is going to retire and there is now one who is saying they are going to come forward to take the business on.”
She went on to add: “It only has thee staff now. I don’t have a garden gnome but they became popular in Germany in the late nineteenth century but 25 million of these little fellows reside in gardens.”
Charlie noted: “That’s just in Germany.”
Before the pair could continue, Mike jumped in to drop a shock revelation about his own garden gnome.
“I do have four,” he revealed. “There’s a drunken gnome in the garden and one in the house which talks to you. It’s quite annoying actually.”
Naga teased: “Is that when you look in the mirror?”
“Aha very good, very good,” Mike laughed.
“Actually it’s movement activated so you’ll be walking around the house and then it will go ‘On me head son you should have gone to supersavers.’ It shouts football terms at you.”
“Was it a gift?” Naga asked.
Mike chuckled: “Yes, somebody obviously liked me very much. No, it’s very nice.”
“Do you the hide the other gnomes,” the presenter continued to probe.
“You’ve got four. Where are the other two?”
Mike simply laughed as he stated: “Oh, they’re boring.”
It comes after Naga was left horrified on yesterday’s show when her co-host Dan Walker joked he would turn up to work naked on a Tuesday.
The presenter had forgotten his waistcoat in honour of waistcoat Wednesday as he’d gotten his days mixed up.
“I like to keep the standards upon waistcoat Wednesday but I failed today,” Dan confessed.
Naga explained she wasn’t aware he wore a waistcoat on Wednesday as she doesn’t usually present on that day.
Dan laughed: “You want to see naked Tuesdays.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
