BBC News: ‘No idea’ Charlie Stayt renders Naga Munchetty speechless with remark
BBC BREAKFAST saw Charlie Stayt baffle his colleagues Naga Munchetty and Matt Taylor as they appeared to not understand what he was trying to say.
BBC Breakfast: Charlie confuses co-hosts with made up word
Today’s instalment of BBC Breakfast was hosted by Charlie and Naga with meteorologist Matt on hand to report the weather.
However, one of Charlie’s utterances left Naga and Matt temporarily speechless.
Following a forecast from Matt, Charlie directed a strange word at him on the BBC show.
Charlie began: “We’re talking about made up words. I’ve got one for Matt now. Can we do this? I’ve got ‘armwafferbod’.
No explanations necessary
“That’s my description, that’s my word to you…armwafferbod.”
Matt and Naga looked on at Charlie, clueless at what he was saying as they both let out some awkward laughter.
Charlie continued: “I’m not even going to explain it. I’m just going to leave it out there.
“No explanations necessary.”
Naga and Matt then laughed some more at Charlie as they still didn’t quite understand what he was doing.
Naga declared: “No idea what you’re saying.”
After the initial confusion, Charlie then offered a bit of context to his actions.
He said: “It’s because we’re talking about Roald Dahl a little later on and he was a master of coming up with words that didn’t exist but that make perfect sense - if you know what I mean.”
Naga then stated: “We’ll talk about those a little later.”
“Are we not doing it now?” Charlie questioned.
To which Naga replied: “I don’t think so. I think we’re going to do it after we’ve spoken to Ben.”
Following a segment on lambs delivered by Ben Thompson, Charlie finally got the part he’d been so eagerly preparing for as they discussed the words used by Dahl.
It comes as a new book has been collated by lexicographer Susan Rennie which puts together the famous author’s made-up words.
Naga was given the word “Squifflerotter” but before she read out the meaning, she poked fun at her co-host.
She announced: “I don’t know why they gave me this one to read out about you, a Squifflerotter. ‘A Squifflerotter is a mean and nasty grown-up’.”
The two of them then erupted into laughter as Charlie said: “Didn’t know that, I didn’t know that.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
