BBC Weather: FROST to hit UK as temperatures drop
The weather is set to drastically change this week as temperatures plummet to blistering lows, while winds ravage the nation.
Today, widespread frost will cause heat levels to drop across the UK, with most areas struggling to reach five Celsius.
In Edinburgh the figure could be as low as minus two Celsius, whereas southern portions of the UK could make seven degrees.
Meteorologist Matt Taylor told BBC Breakfast viewers: “[There will be] widespread frost today and temperatures as low as minus five in one or two sports at the moment, but it is a week of changed.”

Eastern costal counties will be a lot milder than most places on Monday, as the breeze moves in from the North Sea.
But the wind is going to feed showers into the north as it travels westwards during the course of the day.
Meanwhile, a weather front - without success - will try to force its way into western regions, but will only manage to push some high cloud into Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
Elsewhere, clear skies but it will still feel cool, although forecasters do not expect it to be as chilly as it was last weekend.
Overnight and into Tuesday a weather front is going to drift across the UK, before fizzling out.
However, low pressure to the east of the UK may reach eastern coastal counties on Tuesday, bringing some heavy rain and strong winds.
For most Tuesday will be a decent day, although it will feel cool, with temperatures between seven and 10 Celsius.
Then on evening Tuesday through to Wednesday morning, the weather pattern begins to change as low pressure shifts to the north and the North Sea.
As a result, a southerly air stream is able to come in from the west, bringing milder air to the south of the UK, therefore enabling temperatures to return to average figures.
With just days to go before November, bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on next month being the coldest on record.
The bookies now make it 6-4 from 2-1, after minus temperatures and snow hit parts of the UK last weekend.
Coral expect this winter to go down as the coldest ever on record and have 10-11 evens on snow to fall on Halloween.
“We’ve seen snow and minus temperatures already now and that has left us with no choice but to slash our odds on both the coldest November and the coldest winter,” Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead stated.
“Winter has most definitely arrived and it looks set to be a lengthy one.”
He added: “A white Halloween looks likely now and those out trick or treating can expect to be caught in a few flurries of snow.”
