Victoria Pendleton ruled out of Olympic medal position
GOLDEN girl Victoria Pendleton missed out on the medals last night after being disqualified in the women’s team sprint.
Pendleton, 31, seen left after the crushing ruling, and partner Jessica Varnish, 21, had set the Velodrome alight, scorching around the track in their heats in world record time and seemed destined for a showdown final with China.
But the cheers turned to boos as officials ruled they had broken the rules, crossing over as Pendleton charged off to the finishing line.
Last night she said: “I’m desperately disappointed.”
She has two chances for gold left, in the keirin today and the individual sprint for which she won a gold in Beijing in 2008.
