Jordi Gomez shakes up Arsenal
WIGAN, who earned Premier League survival on the final day of last season, gave themselves a relegation lifeline with a stunning win at the Emirates.
Roberto Martinez’s side moved five points clear of the drop zone as they seized on some dreadful early Arsenal defending – and then held on superbly.
Wigan hit the Gunners with two goals in 60 seconds in the first half. Franco Di Santo fired them in front and then Jordi Gomez tucked in the second.
Arsenal fought back and their pressure paid off when Thomas Vermaelen scored in the 21st minute, but it was to be Wigan’s night.
There was rancour at the end when Gunners skipper Robin van Persie refused to shake hands with opposite number Gary Caldwell.
