George Osbourne's risque gag
GEORGE OSBORNE’s risqué gag about sexually frustrated teenage boys during a speech at the recent GQ Awards certainly earned him plenty of public criticism but I am reminded that our Chancellor’s sense of humour has won him a goodly share of plaudits in the past.
Colleagues point out that Osborne cut his political teeth writing gags for his then boss William Hague to deliver from the Despatch Box more than a decade ago when the latter was Tory leader.
With the aid of Osborne’s one-liners, Hague regularly got the better of Tony Blair – himself never exactly known for his rapier wit – during their clashes at Prime Minister’s Questions.
