'Lonely' bomber's cry for help on Islam websites
THE jet bomber’s journey from troubled teenager to Al Qaeda attacker is mapped out in 300 online postings to Islamic internet forums.
Investigators have discovered how Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab – who studied at University College London for three years from 2005 – first turned to the web for counselling and companionship, writing he was “lonely” and had “never found a true Muslim friend”.
But his online ramblings give a chilling clue of what was to come when he wrote: “I won’t go into too much details about my fantasy, but basically they are jihad fantasies.
“I imagine how the great jihad will take place, how the Muslims will win (Allah willing) and rule the whole world, and establish the greatest empire once again.”
It was in stark contrast to his early entries. “I have no one to speak to,” read a posting from January 2005, when the Nigerian was 18.
“No one to consult, no one to support me and I feel depressed and lonely.”
