North Korea announces FREEZE on NUCLEAR MISSILE tests ahead of Kim-Trump meeting
NORTH Korea has announced a freeze of its nuclear missile tests ahead of its despot leader’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, the country’s state media has declared.
KCNA stated that 'from April 21', the hermit kingdom will 'stop nuclear tests'
KCNA stated that “from April 21”, the hermit kingdom will “stop nuclear tests”.
It added: "From April 21, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
"The North will shut down a nuclear test site in the country's northern side to prove the vow to suspend nuclear test.”
It is understood the decision was made at a meeting of the ruling Worker’s Party of Korea’s central committee on Friday.
Kim Jong-un declared that his rogue regime did not need to conduct further nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile tests because it had “completed” its goal of developing the devastating weapons.
Donald Trump also tweeted to confirm the decision from Pyongyang.
He wrote: "North Korea has agreed to suspend all Nuclear Tests and close up a major test site.
“This is very good news for North Korea and the World - big progress! Look forward to our Summit.”
The move comes shortly after a direct phone line between North and South Korea’s leaders was installed.
The South’s Blue House and Pyongyang’s State Affairs Commission tested the line for four minutes.
Youn Kun-young, the director for the Government Situation Room in South Korea, declared that “the call quality was very good”.
They added: "The call quality was very good and we felt like we got a call from our next-door neighbour.”
