Plane and air ambulance crash mid-air in Philippsburg, Germany, near nuclear power plant
A PLANE has crashed with an air ambulance helicopter in Philippsburg, Germany, in a mid-air collision which has killed at least four people.

It is unclear if medical helicopter was carrying any emergency patients when the collision happened today.
Police said it is unknown how the accident happened.
According to reports, flaming debris and wreckage was scattered across a wide area around Phillipsburg.
There are no reports of whether there were more casualties on the ground.

The rescue helicopter was operated by DRF Luftrettung, Germany’s civil air rescue service, according to Airlive.
Karlsruhe police has confirmed at least four fatalities.
A police spokesman: "We do not know yet who was sitting in which machine.
“Right now we need to get an overview of the situation first."

The collision site is close to a gravel plant in Philippsburg.
So far it is not known whether the crash happened above an inhibited area or not.
Philippsburg is a small city near Karlsruhe in southern Germany. A nuclear power plant is close to the crash site.
Mid-air collisions are extremely rare.
One of the worst to ever occur was in Germany in 2002 when a passenger jet and a cargo jet hit each other over Uberlingen, killing all 71 people on board the two planes.
