'Gunman' at New York university in Manhattan – police rush to scene
PART of Manhattan is on lockdown after reports of an “active shooter” at a university near the New York Times building.
The Pace University building was locked off
There were claims a gunman was loose in Pace University at 41 Park Row.
Carly Wakefield wrote on Twitter: “If you're in 41 park row or pace plaza get out asap there's an alleged shooter in the school”
Students said they had been led out of their classrooms by police officers and the area was locked off.
Timothy Nolan tweeted: "So @NYPDnews just threw everyone out of @PaceUniversity. Anyone know what's up?”
And Nico Amatullo said: “There's a man with a gun at Pace University, large police presence.”
Pace University later announced the incident had been a false alarm.
There were reports of an "active shooter"
The university said: “There was police activity at One Pace Plaza. It was a false alarm.
“There were no injuries and everyone is safe.”
