The rocket which was fired from the Gaza strip eater today is believed to have caused no injuries after landing in the open area of Chof Askelon, south Israel.
While no group stepped forward to claim the strike, Israel holds Hamas responsible for any attacks from Gaza.
An Israeli Defence Force spokesperson said: “A short while ago, a projectile hit an open region in the Ashkelon region. No injuries have been reported.
“In response, IAF aircraft targeted two Hamas posts in the northern Gaza Strip.”

A Gaza security source confirmed the warplanes hit two bases belonging to Hamas’ military arm, causing significant damage.

Another added: “If this is how Gaza lights [up], we prefer to stay in darkness”.
Gaza's infrastructure has been decimated in air strikes over the years
A medical official in Gaza city confirmed three people were being treated for injuries in the Shifa hospital, including a 26-year-old in critical condition.
An IDF statement added: “The IDF considers the Hamas terrorist organisation to be solely responsible for what is happening in the Gaza Strip.”
It comes after at least 46 people were injured after clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at a Jerusalem holy site last month.

The commotion was said to have involved thousands of worshippers who entered the Haram al-Sharif - also known as the Temple Mount - to end a boycott of the compound over new Israeli security measures.
Chaos erupted outside after a group of policemen walked in the middle of a crowd.
