The toddler lived in the local gypsy camp in Scampia.
The mother has been brought in by the local police for questioning, who are investigating the incident.
It is currently unknown how the girl became to be locked in the vehicle, which is owned by her grandfather.
Police are unsure if the girl was locked in there or if she somehow managed to get inside the vehicle and then became trapped.
The girl was found to have a wound on her forehead and police are also looking at the possibility that she could have been looking for shelter.
The girl’s mother reportedly stated that she was out of the camp at the time and could not find the girl when she returned.

Francesco Borrelli, a local councillor, recently claimed that cockroaches had been discovered next to the medicine in the hospital’s ER department.
Mr Borrelli said: "There were cockroaches on a shelf next to medicines in the ER. The problem is that in most cases cleaning contractors don't do their job properly.”
