Last year, Germany was targeted by Islamic State terrorist Anis Amri when he deliberately drove a truck into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people.
Among the stars due to play the three-night gig tonight, which started today, were Liam Gallagher, Bastille and Rag n Bone Man.
Ring am Ring organisers said that they hope to continue the festival on Saturday and Sunday.
