‘Today our allies arrive’ Polish president celebrates US soldiers’ arrival by driving TANK
THOUSANDS of American troops in Poland have been welcomed by the country’s president amid rising tensions with Russia.
NATO deploys 3,500 US troops for training in Poland
Andrzej Duda went full steam ahead when he opened a joint military training scheme by assuming control of a tank.
Around 4,000 soldiers from the US have been arriving in Poland as part of an agreement to strengthen NATO's position in the region.
Mr Duda said he was certain the warm welcome with which the American soldiers were met will strengthen the "trans-Atlantic bond" between the two nations.

He said: “Today I am certain we will not be in danger.
"Today I am certain their blood sacrifice was not in vain, certain, that there is no enemy capable of measuring itself to this great force."
The event was observed by American ambassador Paul Jones who said the two armies were entering a whole new level of co-operation.

He underlined the troops arriving were a highly trained and equipped unit belonging to America's finest combat forces.
Mr Jones promised they will be prepared to defend against all targeted attacks as well as cyber-warfare.
Within the next two months, more NATO forces will be stationed in Poland.
Even more troops are set to arrive and stationed along the Russian border
British, German, and Canadian allies will arrive, spreading their forces across three countries bordering Russia.
Mr Jones said the presence of the armies was reassuring towards a sense of security.
