BARACK Obama has destroyed US-Russia relations and history will remember his mistakes, the Russian prime minister has claimed.

Dmitry Medvedev blasted the outgoing US President in a Facebook post just hours before Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated.
Medvedev – who also served as Russian president between 2008 to 2012 – wrote: “The Obama administration has destroyed relations between the United States and Russia, which are at their lowest point in decades.

"This is its key foreign policy mistake which will be remembered by history.”
The former Kremlin leader went on to attack Obama’s second term in office, claiming he overlooked important issues during his latter years as President.
Medvedev said: “The Obama administration was completely short-sighted on such an important and complex issue as relations with Russia.
"It is important to remember that Russia-US relations, without exaggeration, determine the fate of major international initiatives.
“We must be aware of our common responsibility. This is something that the Obama administration failed to do.”
The Russian did praise the international cooperation between the Cold War enemies in their mutual efforts for pushing through the Iranian nuclear deal and elimination of chemical weapons in Syria.
Medvedev noted that the success in these areas remain “important for the world”.

Medvedev's message comes just hours before Trump's inauguration
He concluded his message with a hopeful message that relations could be restored under a Trump administration.
Medvedev added: “We do not know yet how the new US administration will approach relations with our country. But we are hoping that reason will prevail.
“And we are ready to do our share of the work in order to improve the relationship.”
