DONALD Trump is to visit Britain for the first time since his controversial White House campaign led to barbed exchanges with David Cameron.

The Republican presidential candidate will formally open his revamped Scottish golf course on the day of the EU referendum result.
Mr Trump, who backs a British exit from Europe, said that his visit to Turnberry, Ayrshire, on June 24 had been planned before the poll date was announced.
Downing Street, meanwhile, said the Prime Minister would be “very happy” to meet the outspoken billionaire but had made no plans to do so.

Announcing his trip, Mr Trump said unveiling the Ailsa course following a £200m restoration would be “very exciting”.
He added: “I am very proud of it. I look forward to attending the opening of this great development.”

A source close to the Prime Minister said: “Candidates often come through the country. We are more than happy to meet him on that basis. There are no firm dates set up at the moment. There has been no formal contact.”
Meanwhile, today Mr Trump was praised as a “wise politician” by the hardline regime of North Korea.
