Tiny Angelito – meaning little angel – was born with the unusual deformity called Patau Syndrome, which happens in just one in every 15,000 births.
His worried parents, mother Lorena Rodriquez Zaveleta, 20, and the 25-year-old father, who hasn’t been named, remain at their son’s bedside.

But paediatrician Jose Castillo has reassured them that their son, who was born in Chimbote, western Peru, is stable and keeping food down and that his heart and respiratory system are also working well.
The newborn was transferred from his home in Nuevo Chimbote to the Hospital del Nino some 300 miles away in the capital Lima where he will need to undergo an operation to treat his malformation and give him a normal nose.
The condition happens in just one in every 15,000 births
He will undergo further tests to determine how else his body has been affected by the mutation.
The hospital's neonatal care boss Carlos Arrestegui Ramos said: "He doesn’t have difficulty breathing now, but he will need plastic surgery."
Valentin Fernandez, The mayor of the Nuevo Chimbote district in Lima, has presented the young parents with a gift of nappies, milk and money to cover their stay in the capital while their newborn son undergoes receives treatment.
