Flying fire engines: Killer blasts tear through Taiwan streets
AN investigation started yesterday into the cause of a series of killer blasts that tore through streets in Taiwan.
Five pipeline explosions in the city of Kaohsiung killed 26 people on Thursday night.
As residents were given the all-clear to return home, a director of the emergency operation blamed leaking propene, a petrochemical not intended for public use.
The blasts, which injured 267 people, sent flames shooting skywards, hurled concrete and cars into the air and left long, deep craters.
Resident Chen Qing-tao, 38, said: “I thought it was a huge earthquake.”
