Michelle Obama enlists furry friends for health brigade
AMERICA’S First Lady Michelle Obama gets that warm and fuzzy feeling as she cuddles up to Sesame Street characters Elmo and Rosita at the White House.
President Obama’s wife was in high spirits after enlisting the furry cast of the popular children’s TV show to front a healthy eating campaign.
They will help to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables by featuring on shop signs, food stickers and other labels.
Mrs Obama was especially delighted that Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation behind the show, had waived its licensing fee.
“And they’re doing this free of charge. Yes!” enthused the First Lady, as she pumped her fists in the air before an invited audience in the State Dining Room.
“Just imagine what will happen when we take our kids to the grocery store and they see Elmo and Rosita, and the other Sesame Street characters they love, up and down the produce aisle.
“Imagine what it will be like to have our kids begging us to buy them fruits and vegetables instead of cookies, candy and chips.”
Mrs Obama has long fought to reduce obesity in the US.
