Success for Tony Abbott as Australia votes Conservative
AUSTRALIA’S Conservative leader Tony Abbott won a landslide victory yesterday as voters punished Labour for six years of turbulent rule and its failure to maximise the benefits of a now-fading mining boom.
Abbott pledged to restore political stability, cut taxes and crack down on asylum seekers.
With 65 per cent of the vote counted, analysts predicted the Liberal-National Party coalition would have a majority of around 40 in the 150-seat parliament.
