Barack Obama is sworn in the USA
UP to a million people braved freezing weather in Washington yesterday to cheer and wave flags as Barack Obama was sworn in for his second and final term as US President.
Pop star Beyonce raised the temperature by singing The Star Spangled Banner.
But celebrations were not as glitzy as four years ago when Mr Obama became the first black president amid a huge wave of optimism.
Yesterday’s ceremony reflected the mood after the global economic crisis.
Watched by his wife Michelle, Mr Obama, 51, took the oath of office outside the Capitol building before telling the crowds: “My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together.”
