Nicolas Sarkozy joins Twitter as re-elction campaign begins
FRENCH President Nicolas Sarkozy has joined the social revolution and added himself to Twitter.
On the same day that the French President launches his re-election campaign, he posted on the social networking site.
"Good day to you all, I'm very happy today to launch my Twitter account. Thank you to all of those who would like to follow me," he wrote.
Nicolas Sarkozy, found @NicolasSarkozy is the only European leader to join the social networking site, David Cameron has yet to join.
The decision could be risky for the French President who is hoping to be re-elected for his second term in power.
A number of MPs have been caught up in Twitter gaffes on the social networking site, including Labour leader Ed Miliband, who famously tweeted 'blackbusters' instead of referring to Blockbusters on the death of Bob Holness.
Good day to you all, I'm very happy today to launch my Twitter account
Nicolas Sarkozy, referring to France's main private network, on which he was to launch his campaign added : "I have accepted TF1's invitation to appear on the 8pm news tonight and I invite you all to join me."
Sarkozy has already gained more than 36,000 followers.
