‘X’ sex choice on Aussie passport
AUSTRALIANS applying for a new passport are likely to be baffled by revised wording on the application form.
When asked to select their gender, they will have three choices – male, female or X. The X choice is for “transgender and intersex” applicants.
Officials claim that the new form removes discrimination by introducing the third option.
Australian Senator Louise Pratt, whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man, said the reform was a major improvement for travellers who face questioning and detention at airports because their appearance does not match their gender status.
