Incredible 3,600mph hypersonic jet that will fly passengers from London to New York in 1hr

An aerospace company has unveiled plans for a hypersonic jet that it says will be able to travel from New York to London at speeds of up to 3,600mph in just one hour.

Startup engineering company Venus Aerospace have claimed that their Stargazer M400 will be Earth’s first hypersonic, reusable aircraft, capable of travelling for 5000 miles whilst producing half the CO2 emissions of an ordinary flight.

It has been over 20 years since Concorde took flight, banned in many countries due to the disturbance from noisy sonic booms when they break the sound barrier.

But that could be about to change with plans for the Stargazer allowing travel of up to 3,600mph at an altitude of 110,000 feet, high enough to see the curvature of the Earth and the darkness of space.

Venus Aerospace believes the Stargazer will be an affordable method of travel, unlike Concorde which was an expensive, luxury method of travel - something that ultimately contributed to its downfall.

Founders Andrew and Sassie Duggleby believe the development of the technology can change the future of travel, diplomacy, and medicine in the future.

Founded in 2020, after the couple became frustrated at the time it took to travel from Japan to the US, it is hoped the plane will be operational in the 2030s.

The couple told Medium: "How does the world change if you can fly across the globe and still be home for dinner?

"Imagine what you could do. What factory is down that can get a part in an hour? What about global organ transplants? Think about diplomacy and face-to-face meetings and conflict resolution. Consider things like extracting Seal Teams from danger.

"The options and possibilities are endless. Every time there has been an increase in travel speed, it’s caused an increase in commerce and in peace."

In February this year, Venus successfully flew its inaugural supersonic drone and it has achieved all engine milestones to date.

The couple also believe the development of hypersonics is crucial to the US maintaining its military advantage in the coming decades.

They said: "We’re at war and we’re behind. Other countries have similar technology. If we don’t develop quickly, we’ll be decades behind. There’s a race for new space and America has to win."

Venus Aerospace says they are planning a test flight next year along with recently announced engine provider Velontra.

Eric Briggs, Velontra’s Chief Operating Officer, said: "We can’t wait to dig in, make the first one fly, and ultimately perfect an engine concept that has lived mostly in textbooks but never as a production unit in the air.”
