Russian forces suffered the loss of "1,160 soldiers in just one day" according to latest estimates which are likely to leave Vladimir Putin po-faced.

The dictator has seen his troops pummelled since the illegal 2022 invasion with estimates from multiple sources, including the MoD and Ukrainian Army, citing deaths and injuries likely to be over 640,000.

Now a latest statement from the Ukrainian General Staff of the Armed Forces claims 661,630 Russian soldiers have been lost since what the Kremlin calls the "Special Military Operation" began over two years ago on February 24.

The Kyiv Post reports the staggering losses include an astonishing 1,160 of Putin's soldiers killed just in the last 24 hours as fighting intensifies along the 600-mile-long front line in eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian military sources claim in all Russia has also lost lost 8,933 tanks, 17,710 armored fighting vehicles, 26,102 vehicles and fuel tanks, 19,156 artillery systems, 1,223 multiple launch rocket systems, 972 air defense systems, 368 airplanes, 328 helicopters, 16,643 drones, 28 ships and boats, and one submarine.

However, despite the huge casualties suffered by Russian forces there are signs their use of unrelenting artillery and seemingly expendable numbers of troops is having some effect, with Kremlin soldiers taking the eastern Ukrainian town of Vuhledar on October 1

But whatever gains that are being made are coming at a heavy price as a latest Ministry of Defence post today (Monday) on X revealed.

It said: "The average daily Russian casualties (killed or wounded) in Ukraine reached a new monthly war high during September 2024."

The MoD added: "The average daily loss rate was 1,271 per day, compared to the previous monthly war high of 1,262 recorded in May 2024, according to Ukrainian General Staff reporting."

On Sunday night Russian forces attacked Ukraine owith 87 Shahed drones and four different types of missiles.

A 49-year-old man was killed in the Kharkiv region after his car was hit by a drone, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, and a gas pipeline was also damaged and a warehouse set alight in the city of Odesa.

Ukraine’s air force said in a statement that air defences had destroyed 56 of the 87 drones and two missiles over 14 Ukrainian regions, including the capital, Kyiv.

Another 25 drones disappeared from radar “presumably as a result of anti-aircraft missile defence,” it said.

The barrage comes a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he will present his “victory plan” at the October 12 meeting of the Ramstein group of nations that supplies arms to Ukraine.
