There is absolutely no doubt that the tiny Greek island of Santorini is a special place.

Its whitewashed houses, blue domes roofs and outlook to stunning sunsets make it adored by tourists from around the world.

But as each year passes its popularity continues to grow - and it’s sparked concerns from locals, officials and even tourists themselves about the crowds it attracts.

So if you’d like to escape all of that chaos then there’s one Greek location where you can sample local life without the chaos: Milos.

It’s just 52 nautical miles south of Santorini and boasts all the same charms and other gorgeous aspects, as the Greek tourism site visitgreece.gr explains.

It says: “Found in the southwest part of the Cyclades, this island has a handful of singular natural landscapes contributed by volcanic activity; mysterious rock formations, curious soil colours and numerous jaw-dropping beaches.

“Besides having countless unique sights to see around the island, it also is the homeland of the renowned marble statue of Venus of Milo seen today in the Louvre Museum.”

Those who have visited agree that it’s a bucket-list destination, with thousands taking to travel review site TripAdvisor to rave about its beauty - particularly its Sarakiniko Beach.

One said: “This was the most magnificent beach we have ever seen!”

“This breathtaking place is out of this world! Perfect for taking pictures, enjoy this unique scenery,” agreed another happy visitor.

One tourist added: “Don’t miss this place if you visit Milos.

“This lunar beach paradise will leave you with no words other than ‘wow’”.

Milos has more than 70 beaches dotted around its circumference with other well-known beaches including Kleftiko, Provatas, Palaiochori and Tsigkrado.

Kleftiko is sometimes referred to as the Meteora of the Sea, known for the amazing grey rock formations rising from its crystal waters.

Provatas is fantastic for families as it has shallow waters which make it ideal for paddling.

Plaka, the capital of Milos, is home to the white-washed architecture you typically see in photographs of Greece.

July and August are the peak season and when things might get a bit busier.
