A key player in the overtourism demonstrations on Majorca has announced a new protest as part of the "Occupy our Beaches" movement as fury across the Balearics ramps up.

This event, announced by "Mallorca Platja Tour", is set to take place on Sunday from 11am until 1pm at Balneario 6 in Playa de Palma - the most popular resort in Majorca for German tourists.

The protest, described by Majorca Platja Tour on social network X, will be "playful and festive and responds to the inaction" of the authorities regarding the overcrowding of tourists on the islands.

The association stated that while their previous action in Caló des Moro was meant to symbolically reclaim a natural space abandoned by locals, this time they have chosen Balneario 6 as a "symbol of a drunken beach", "a tourist model that we think does us a lot of harm."

The organisers aim to create a "trip to the past" and a family reunion, reminiscent of Majorca in the 60s and 70s. They emphasised that the protest "is not against tourism, but against a tourism model that impoverished."

To support this theme, they have launched a graphic campaign inspired by postcards and advertisements from the 1960s-1970s, when tourists came to Majorca “to find clean beaches with friendly and welcoming residents”.

Majorca Platja Tour stressed the civic, peaceful, and festive nature of the action.

The group has officially formed as an association and has notified the Government Delegation in the Balearics about the protest.

They stressed that the goal is "also to act as a voice to remind our political representatives that they do not work only for the big elites but for all the citizens of this land."

The group had previously told its followers on X that they were planning a protest on August 11, the busiest day for passengers according to Gatwick airport, with Palma de Majorca one of its top three short-haul destinations this summer alongside Malaga and Barcelona.

The organisers of the demonstrations also warned that they would continue to take to the streets until the Balearic government takes action and adopts measures against the housing crisis and tourist overcrowding.
