An 11-year-old Irish girl tragically died after falling 65ft from the seventh floor of a hotel in Majorca, where she was holidaying with her family.

The incident occurred around 6.30am on Monday, July 22 at Club Mac, a three-star all-inclusive resort catering to families in Puerto de Alcudia, northeast Majorca.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics and other emergency responders, the girl, named locally as Clodagh Phelan from Co. Wicklow, could not be revived and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed that the family was due to return home the day after the incident.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Majorca confirmed: "We are investigating the death of an 11-year-old Irish girl who died after plunging from a seventh-floor terrace at a hotel in Alcudia. The first emergency calls came in around 6.45 this morning."

An insider said: "The girl who died was one of three children. The family were due to return to Ireland today [July 22].

"The youngster's parents were sleeping when she fell and had no idea what had happened until afterwards."

Initial reports suggest Clodagh fell after heading to her hotel room's balcony by herself while her family was still sleeping.

Parnell Athletics Club in Rathdrum, where she was a member, praised the 11-year-old as a "beautiful, spirited child and a great athlete."

They added: "Parnell AC are truly heartbroken to share the devastating news of the passing of Clodagh Phelan, one of our juvenile athletes and friend to many of our younger athletes.

"Clodagh tragically passed away following an accident on holiday. [She] was a beautiful, spirited child and a great athlete who excelled in many sports, not just athletics.

"Her family Valerie, Liam, Will, and David and extended family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time."

Glendalough AC, Roundwood and District Athletic Club, Aughrim GAA and Croghan Athletics Club were among the clubs that today also extended their condolences to the Phelan family.

It is understood that Clodagh was an "all-rounder" when it came to sports. She was a promising athlete, as well as a talented football and camogie player.

Taoiseach Simon Harris shared his condolences to the family on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

Mr Harris wrote: "So sad to hear of the tragic loss of Clodagh Phelan.

"So much promise and personality snatched away in a terrible accident. Thoughts with her family and community at this truly awful time."
