Jay Slater's GoFundMe page has now raised £70,000 after his heartbroken mum asked for more financial support following the discovery of her son's remains.

The page has hit the £70,000 mark just two days after it passed £60,000.

Jay's body was found earlier this week in a remote part of the Teno Rural Park in Tenerife.

The search for Jay went on for weeks after he went missing. He left a music festival on June 16 before heading to an Airbnb with two men he met at the event.

The next morning, he missed his bus, so he walked through the mountainous park. He called his friend, Lucy, that morning to tell her his phone was low on battery and needed water.

Officials say Jay fell and hit his head on a rock, leading to his death.

His mother, Debbie Duncan, said the family is "heartbroken" after Jay's death was confirmed.

She also asked people to continue donating so she can give her son "the send-off he deserves".

Family spokesperson LBT Global hit back at online trolls who have attacked Debbie online in recent weeks.

Matt Searle said: "This hate comes from people who, I assume, have never had to repatriate a deceased loved one.

"Those costs can top £20k easily.

"These people probably haven't had to arrange their own child's funeral, nor felt the need to make it the biggest and best they can as it's the last thing they'll ever do for their child."

Mr Searle also told the Daily Mail that Debbie will use some of the funds to repatriate Jay's body.

The Mail also reports that Debbie plans to make a donation to LBT Global, a charity that helps families whose lost ones have gone missing.

In a statement following the identification of Jay's remains, Debbie said: "Hello everyone, thank you for all of your kindness, support and condolences in light of the tragic news that Jay's body has been found. We are overwhelmed with grief and are so grateful for your support.

"The wonderful team from the Netherlands, Signi Zoekhondon, have remained in Spain all week and have continued to support us since Jay was found.

"They are due to fly home in the coming days and we are so appreciative of their dedication and support.

"We would like to thank LBT Global for their support during this impossible time. We are working with agencies to arrange Jay's repatriation to the UK and the remaining funds, along with any future donations will be used to help with this if needed and to pay for Jay's funeral costs back home.

"We want to give our boy the send-off he deserves so please do continue to share and support our fundraiser however you can."
