British tourists fined £30,000 each for 'balconing' in Magaluf and booted out of hotel
Balconing involves moving between hotel balconies, and local authorities are cracking down on this risky behaviour.
Massive brawl in Magaluf on Sunday morning
Four British teenagers are facing massive fines of £30,000 each for a dangerous stunt known as 'balconing' in Magaluf, a popular party destination in Spain.
Five thrill-seekers, including four from Britain and one from Sweden, were caught either jumping between balconies or diving from their balconies into a pool.
The total fines issued by the authorities have surpassed £150,000. These individuals were also kicked out of their hotels.
Calvia council, the governing body in charge, shared that two of the British individuals were just 18 years old, while the other pair were 19.
These incidents occurred between June 4 and August 8. The most recent occurrence took place at 6 a.m. on August 8, when a tourist was spotted leaping between balconies. The names of the hotels involved have not been disclosed.
Calvia council's leader, Juan Feliu, stressed the fines as a serious deterrent against reckless behaviour that has previously resulted in injuries and deaths. This crackdown aims to improve Magaluf's reputation, which has been tarnished by excessive drinking and rowdy behaviour.
Feliu said: "Balconing is not going to be tolerated in our municipality.

"It's an irresponsible practice that can cause serious and irreversible injuries and even death.
"It's obviously the last thing one would want for those who visit us.
"This is not leisure, it's a very dangerous irresponsible act and it's not the image we want for our municipality."
However, a crucial question remains unanswered: whether the fines have been paid or how they will be handled by these young tourists.
