The shooting occurred at the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale Wednesday, according to Glendale police. The gunman is said to have been armed with an AR-15 by a witness at the scene just outside Phoenix on Wednesday evening.
Glendale Police then confirmed a suspect was in custody and warned people to keep away from the area.
"Please stay out of the #Westgate area," they tweeted.
"Preliminary info from our dispatch is there were at least two persons struck by gunfire and one person is in custody."
State Senator Martín Quezada revealed he had witnessed the shocking attack.
He wrote on Twitter: "I just witnessed an armed terrorist with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate.
"There are multiple victims.
"I saw two victims with my own eyes. Not sure how many others I saw the shooter.
"Being told not to say anything else about details until I speak to police. I'm ok. Lots of shaken up people."
An eyewitness has described "hiding in the back of our studio with a coworker" as the incident unfolded outside the window.
"We locked the doors and shut the lights off as soon as we heard the gunshots go off," she wrote.
She posted a video to social media of flashing police lights from inside the business premises.
"The shooting happened right there, literally f***ing 100 feet from where we are at," she can be heard saying in the distressing footage.
