A TRAIN has derailed in Italy leaving two people dead and 27 injured.

The high-speed train ploughed off the line near Lodi at around 5.30am on Thursday. Dramatic pictures and videos shared on social media show overturned carriages.
The engine appears to have separated from the train and smashed into a building.
Officials said the two dead were the train’s drivers.
A further 27 were injured but none of their conditions were life threatening.
Lodi Prefect Marcello Cardona said the accident "could have been carnage”.
He added that no further fatalities were expected.
Emergency services attended the scene of the accident.
The line between Milan and Bologna was suspended following the incident.
The train left Milan at 5.10am and was heading to Salerno.
It derailed 20 minutes into its journey at Livraga, 40km (25 miles) from Milan.
There were 33 people travelling on the early morning train.

Unconfirmed reports say that maintenance works had been taking place on the line.
Italy's state railways said it was investigating the cause of the accident.
