TURKEY has seen a devastating plane crash as an aircraft snapped into three pieces after careering off the runway at Istanbul airport on Wednesday.

An Istanbul airport aircraft broke into pieces with flames emitting from its fuselage in a horrifying sight. Terrifying footage shared online shows the shocking aftermath of impact. The plane skidded off the runway at Turkey's second largest airport, causing the jet to split into three pieces.
The country's transport minister has confirmed that no one has died in the crash at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport.
They added that the incident was the result of a "rough landing".
According to Turkey's NTV television, the Pegasus airlines flight was carrying 177 people.
It had just arrived from the city of Izmir, adding the fuselage had caught fire but has since been extinguished.

The airport has now been closed.
The plane careered off the end of the runway and stopped just before a busy roadway.
The aircraft broke in three points, which is not unusual in this kind of high impact crash for that to happen.
These are the main stress points on an aircraft like that.

The points are just towards the tail rear of the aicraft.
Then the main fuselage section would normally remain in tact.
Towards the front end of the aircraft with the flight decks is another weak area where the bulkheads are joined.

The Turkish ministry has come out and reported that there are no fatalities.
The front section of the plane sheared away and turned upside down.
The flight crew and anyone in that section of the aircraft will have been thrown upside down.
Although they would have been wearing their seatbelts on landing which may have helped.
No word yet on injuries.
