We buried ‘dead’ hamster... but it’s back from the grave
TINK the hamster survived being buried alive on a freezing night after she went into hibernation and was mistaken for dead.
Lisa Kilbourne-Smith and boyfriend James Davis were looking after the two-and-a-half-year-old pet for friends when they found her apparently lifeless in her cage.
They placed her in a kitchen roll tube, dug a 1ft deep grave in their flower bed and laid her to rest. Then they called Tink’s owners to break the news. But the next day Lisa’s astonished dad Les found the hamster alive.
She had dug her way out and taken shelter in a cardboard box.
Lisa, 23, said in Painswick, Glos: “Tink seemed cold and lifeless.” A vet said: “Hibernating hamsters can seem dead. But I am amazed it woke up in the cold ground.”
