Radio 4 frightens off foxes
LOUDSPEAKERS are blasting out Radio 4 programmes to keep foxes from attacking protected swans.
Wardens at the Abbotsbury swannery in Dorset acted on the advice of a farmer after marauding foxes swam around 60 yards of fencing to cause havoc.
Swannery chief Dave Wheeler said they were given the idea by a farmer from Devon, who was visiting the famous sanctuary.
“He said he used to lose chickens, but one day left his radio on by accident and never lost another one.
“He convinced us that Radio 4 worked for him and so we thought it should work for us.
“The good thing about Radio 4 is that it talks and continues talking all night long. The foxes hear voices and think people are nearby.”
He said the farmer also joked that Radio 4 was “so boring foxes won’t go near it”.
