Three things Brits warned to do immediately if there is a nuclear strike
As someone who lives in the United Kingdom, what should you do in case the unthinkable happens and there is a radiation emergency in our country?

As the US-Israel and Iran war rages on, tensions are heightening across the globe and citizens are concerned.
Since February 28, 1,286 civilians have been killed in the conflict according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). Of these deaths, at least 200 were innocent, defenseless children.
The former Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled over the country with an iron fist for 36 years and six months, was killed in Tehran during the initial strikes on Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure.
Amid all the death and carnage in the Middle East, coupled with the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine as well as the Israel-Hamas conflict, fears for civilian safety are at an all-time high.
In recent days, we’ve seen terrifying attacks on oil, gas, air, shipping, and tourism facilities throughout the Gulf, as the end of this war seems nowhere in sight.

Drones, missiles, fighter jets, are all terrifying, but the people’s biggest fear remains nuclear strikes.
In the present day, nine countries around the world are equipped with nuclear weapons, namely - Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, India, Israel, and North Korea.
Add to this the decades-long fear and suspicion that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a secret nuclear weapons programme they have been advancing to build themselves a nuclear weapon — and we have the kind of destruction on our hands we can’t even imagine.
Though claims of Iran’s alleged nuclear capabilities have never been proven true, the idea itself is spine-chilling. In fact, the thought of any country going nuclear as the world is rocked with escalating conflict day after day is horrifying.
Amidst all this, the UK government has some safety advice for its citizens, should there ever be the threat of a nuclear strike on Great Britain or a radiation emergency.
So, as someone who lives in the United Kingdom, what should you do in case the unthinkable happens and there is a radiation emergency in our country?
Go in
The first thing you need to do in case of a radiation emergency, according to GOV.UK, is go inside. The advice is simple: “The most important thing to do if you are told you are near a radiation emergency is go indoors as soon as you can and stay there. Close the doors and windows and stay as far away from external walls as possible.”
Stay in
Next, you stay inside.
“Staying indoors reduces your exposure to any radiation outside. You will be given advice on what to do next. Turn off all fans and air conditioning and close all external doors, windows and vents where possible. You will be given advice on what to do next. You may need to stay indoors for one to two days,” as per the UK government’s radiation emergency advisory.
Tune in
The third thing the UK government urges its citizens to do is thoroughly monitor the news. Per the advisory: “Monitor the news and follow official UK advice on GOV.UK for what to do next. Any changes to advice will be communicated to you via official sources – this may be via the radio, television, internet, social media or the police.”
It’s absolutely imperative to be up to date and follow your country’s official advice in case of national emergencies and disasters.
