Brits were left in giggles after an American social media user uploaded a video of a group playing Kerby and claimed that the game had been “invented” by the boys.

A video uploaded on TikTok by @maggiend shows a group of youngsters passing on the basketball to each other on the streets of residential houses.

The video has been shared by a social media user on X, formerly known as Twitter who captioned it as: “Yanks thinking they invented kerby. The UK council estate kids would like a word.”

‘Yanks’ is a slang term for Americans.

Kerby is a children's ball game played in the street, the aim being to throw the ball against the opposite kerb and catch it on the rebound.

In the video, the TikTok user says: “My brother has created this game called ‘Kerby’ and I have to show you what it is.

“Basically, they stand on either side of the street and then throw the ball and try to hit over the Kerb. If they hit the Kerb, they get a point and they get more points if the ball continues to bounce backwards.”

The video has over 1.1 million views with several Brits flocking to the comment section as they mocked the user.

One person wrote: “Crazy they invented, so happy for them. Can’t wait for Biden to claim Kerby.”

A second user commented: “Yanks think they invented everything. They didn’t even ‘invent’ their own country.”

A third user said: “Kerby is older than America.”

A fourth user chimed in: “It’s like when they started noticing the alcoholic drink 20/20 last month. I was drinking that crap in the 90s.”
