Brainteasers can come in many different shapes, sizes and styles depending on the type of brainteaser put before a user.

The three main types of brainteasers are observational, mathematical, and analytical with each posing their own unique challenges. Observational brainteasers, such as the one above by Everypaw Pet Insurance, is an example of an observational brainteaser.

Observational brainteasers are normally busy images or graphics hidden inside fo which is an anomaly that the user has to spot in a time limit.

Meanwhile, mathematical brainteasers come in the form of a tricky maths questions which require someone to use a different part of their brain whilst analytical brainteasers normally take the shape of a word-based riddle.

In this observational brainteaser, the user’s task is to spot all 10 hazards to pets in this BBQ scene above as quickly as possible.

Did you spot all the pet hazards in under 10 seconds? No worries if not, the answers are circled above in red.

There are a series of hazards dotted around the brainteaser including cake, rubbish, a dog lying very close to a hot BBQ, loose wires, corkscrews, rubbish bags, and other BBQ paraphernalia.

Speaking about the importance of looking after dogs and other pets during BBQ season, a spokesperson for Everypaw said: “We wanted to create this brainteaser as a fun way of helping pet owners keep their pooches safe over the Summer.

"BBQs are a great way to spend an afternoon, but it’s important to ensure you’re looking out for your furry friends. We hope this brainteaser gives people food for thought and helps them to enjoy a sizzling but safe Summer!”

As well as giving pets some fair-weather exercise, brainteasers are also an opportunity to stimulate the brain as well in the same way running, cycling or swimming can stimulate the muscles in the arms and legs.

Exercising the brain is key to maintaining and improving neurological health. The healthier the brain is the less likely it may be to develop a neurological condition such as dementia.

This doesn’t mean brainteasers can stop someone from developing dementia, other risk factors can have a much greater impact, but they could help keep the mind sharper for longer.
