RUSH hour commuters can expect to face travel havoc this morning as the wintry weather brings 40mph storms and a month’s worth of rain is expected to fall across parts of the UK sparking travel chaos.
Yellow weather warning issued as heavy rain moves in on UK
Trees are likely to come down, and road and rail services hit as flood warnings came into effect as two Atlantic storms and a bone-chilling blast from Russia converge on Britain today.
The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for heavy rain and strong winds for the southern and eastern parts of England on Monday as well as 25 flood alerts.
The flood alerts are mainly for Southeast England, as well as four for Anglia and one for Southwest England.
The Environment Agency has warned that travel disruption is expected on Monday due to the 31 flood alerts that have been issued.

The train provider Southern has warned that the severe weather forecast will affect its services as well as Thameslink and the Gatwick Express.
In a statement, Southern said: “The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning due to predicted heavy rain and high winds across the South East which will affect our network today.
“Rainfall of up to 50mm and winds of up to 40 mph are expected.
“This means that some services may have the potential to be delayed; cancelled or altered at short notice.”
The UK braces itself for torrential rain today
The Met Office have warned that spray and flooding is likely to result in tough driving conditions, road closures and delays or cancellations to trains and bus services.
They have also warned that power cuts could occur and the winds could cause damage to trees as well as the closures of some bridges.
Certain flights have been delayed because of the conditions, Air Portugal have had to delay a flight to London City due to the weather and Flybe has cancelled a flight from the airport to Edinburgh due to the harsh conditions.
The Crooked Billet Underpass in east London has one lane closed in both directions due to flooding and traffic is very congested in both direction.

Southeastern have tweeted: “Poor weather is expected across some parts of the network tonight, and in to the early hours of tomorrow morning.
“As a result, some early morning Mainline and High Speed services may be altered”.
The Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: “Some very heavy rainfall is to come over the next 24 hours of about 30mm to 40mm – or even possibly 70mm locally – which could lead to localised flooding.
“To put it into perspective, East Anglia’s average rainfall for April is around 40mm so we are looking at that, but within 24 hours.”
The weather is still expected to improve in time for the May Day holiday next week.
