BBC Weather forecasts more snow for Scotland today after the Met Office issued its first red warning in five years on Wednesday, urging people to take action during the bone-chilling conditions.

BBC Weather has forecast a barrage of snow to blanket Scotland on Thursday as the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ grips hold of the UK.
The weather forecast warned of “dangerous” and “nasty” weather in Scotland over the next 24 hours.
Scotland is currently reeling after it was pelted by snow overnight as experts warned of 40cm of snow falling in some parts of the country.
BBC Weather forecaster Helen Willetts told the Today programme: “Some very serious weather out and about this morning. We’ll start in Scotland because it’s here we have the red warning from the Met Office as it stands in the central lowlands.

“But an amber warning of ‘be prepared’ elsewhere basically. It does look as if we will see the continuation of some very disruptive weather, dangerous weather with roads becoming blocked and villages becoming blocked off across the central lowlands and 5cm to 10cm easily here and elsewhere. The western fringes of Scotland the best chance of seeing fewer showers.

A statement reads: “Heavy snow showers and drifting of lying snow in the strong easterly winds will become more widespread across the area later on Wednesday afternoon, through the evening and overnight into Thursday.
“Roads will become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers.
“Long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel are expected. Some communities could become cut off for several days. Long interruptions to power supplies and other services.”
On Wednesday flights from Glasgow Airport were completely halted as the city was brought to a standstill by heavy snow and blizzard conditions.

Met Office chief forecaster Andy Page said further widespread snow is forecast as Emma roars in from the Atlantic tomorrow afternoon.
He said: “Widespread snow is expected to develop through Thursday afternoon and evening, accompanied by strong easterly winds, leading to drifting of lying snow in places.
“Around 10 to 20 centimetres is likely to fall quite widely, with the potential for up to 50 centimetres [20 inches, 1.7 feet] over parts of Dartmoor and Exmoor.
