THE UK is set to be hit by gale force winds and heavy downpours as low-pressure pulls in ferocious weather from the Atlantic.

Britain is set to be battered by gale force winds as a new storm makes its way from the North Atlantic.
Weather watchers noted the development of potent winds as a deep trough of low pressure will cover the north-west of Scotland on Wednesday.

BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos warned of very windy and wet weather hitting the country from Wednesday.
He said: “A spell of wet and very windy weather will arrive through Wednesday.
“We can see some gales across the north and the west and a banner of rain expected to be heavy at times.”

The turbulent weather could have the potential to cause travel disruption and property damage.
The Met Office issued a yellow warning for the North East and Yorkshire and Humber today, saying icy patches could form on wet surfaces.
As temperatures are expected to rise mid-week, the Environment Agency also issued six flood warning for south-west England and 44 flood alerts, caused by the melting ice.
There are four flood warnings and more than 20 flood alerts in Wales.
A Met Office warning of rain was in place for central and southern Wales and North Devon, and Northern Ireland.
Last weekend Scotland was hit by the coldest night since -14.1C was recorded at Braemar in Aberdeenshire in February 2016.
