Storm Jose ‘to regain Hurricane status’ bound for USA east coast and Washington DC
TROPICAL Storm Jose could become a hurricane again on Friday, potentially causing life-threatening rip currents along the US coast and reaching Washington DC, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Tropical Jose could become a hurricane on the weekend and hit Washington next Monday
The NHC said the storm is about 510 miles south-southwest of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour and could gradually turn toward the north in the next two days.
The NHC said: “Some restrengthening is forecast to begin on Friday, and Jose will likely become a hurricane again by the weekend.”
This is the hurricane season’s 14th depression and is moving at 22mph, according to the NHC.
Jose is projected to finish a clockwise loop in the Atlantic Ocean before heading north towards the US coast, potentially grazing Washington DC on Monday at 8.00pm EDT.
Experts say direct impacts from Jose cannot be completely ruled out, but the chance is currently low.
WTTG FOX 5 meteorologist Mike Thomas tweeted: "Stay away, Jose! Lucky us so far, models tend to think it will. But we will keep an eye on him just in case.”
The latest projections of times Jose could hit the US coast
There is a large number of possible tracks because there is still a lot of uncertainty over where Jose could go after completing its loop on Friday.
Fox 61 weatherman Matt Scott said: "There are some rumours swirling about Hurricane Jose hitting New York in ten days. Don't buy into the hype.
“It's not impossible but the probability of that happening is really low.”
