Arctic conditions are set to hit the UK this week.

Several areas in the UK are set to be hit by cold weather conditions, rainstorms, and snow this week. Latest forecast from WX Charts show widespread wintry precipitation across Scotland and northern England on Wednesday, May 13, as low pressure deepens in the North Sea.
Snow showers are then forecast to persist into Wednesday afternoon, with maps at 12pm and 3pm showing cold air firmly entrenched across much of Britain. Other forecasts from the Met Office also show rainstorms apporaching the country, especially in the north of Scotland and north and north east of England.

A Met Office forecast for Wednesday read: "A mix of sunshine and showers across the UK. Some of the showers heavy with hail and thunder, even some wintriness over the Scottish mountains. Brisk and chilly northwesterly winds."
While today's forecaster said "rain in the north gradually clear south through the day. Sunny spells following with scattered showers in the north and northwest. Feeling chilly, especially in the brisk northerly breeze".
According to WXCharts.com, the first snow showers are shown arriving across northern Scotland by 6pm on Tuesday, May 12, before pushing south-east through the evening.
By midnight, wintry outbreaks are forecast across eastern Scotland and parts of northern England, particularly over higher routes and exposed hills.
Snowfalls beginning on Tuesday (May 12) are expected to continue until 12am on Thursday (May 14), according to forecasts. Maps show it starting in the Grampians at lunchtime, before spreading into west and east Scotland (Aberdeen, Fort William) by the evening.
By midnight, the West Coast of Scotland and northern England (Dumfries, Kendal, Blackpool) could see snow. On Wednesday morning, central Scotland, South-east Scotland (Berwick), north England (Manchester, York, Hull), and north Wales (Conwy) will also receive a coating of the white stuff.
The rest of Wednesday is forecast to see scattered showers in central Scotland, north Scotland (Wick, Inverness), and North-west England. During this period, rain will fall across most of the UK, heaviest on Wednesday afternoon.
