UK weather maps show 24C heat surge in May hitting 31 counties - full list
The long-range weather forecast suggests that UK temperatures could rise again next week.

Weather forecasting maps indicate temperatures in certain areas of the country could soon climb as high as 24C.
The Met Office outlook suggests conditions this week will be largely grim, with temperatures unlikely to reach 20C anywhere across the nation from Monday through to Friday.
Nevertheless, the ECMWF weather model indicates temperatures could climb once more next week during a pleasant four-day period beginning on May 21, when highs of 23C are possible in south-east England. The mercury could reach 20C across much of central England, the weather maps indicate.

On May 22, the maps reveal highs of 24C are anticipated in the south-east, including London. Other southern regions of England could climb to 22C, while 21C is possible across central England.
May 23 is forecast to bring highs of 23C across southern England and 21C in the Midlands. Northern Ireland and Scotland appear set to be slightly cooler than England during this stretch, though some Welsh areas - near the English border - could witness temperatures rising to approximately 20C, reports the Mirror.
The ECMWF model indicates May 24 will be the prime day for widespread warmth, with 22C and 23C highs anticipated across a substantial stretch of England, from the south coast northwards to Yorkshire. In total, the maps reveal 35 counties across England and Wales could experience temperatures of 20C or higher during the four-day period.

Met Office forecast for May
The Met Office's outlook indicates temperatures may turn "rather warm" towards the close of this month. Nevertheless, we can anticipate "cooler than average" conditions beforehand.
The Met Office's projection for May 16 to May 25 states: "Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by.
"This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. Initially temperatures are likely to be cooler than average, but tending to recover, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period as it tends to become more settled, especially in the south."
