New weather maps suggest many areas in the UK will enjoy balmy weather conditions this week, as warm temperatures take over the cold snap.

Just as Brits were locking down for the cold winter months, large parts of the nation are set to see summer-like temperatures allowing for the central heating to be switched back off.

Weather maps by WXCharts show a large swathe of 20C warmth heading towards the southeast of the UK on Wednesday, October 16. Kent through to Norfolk will be particularly warm seeing highs of 19C-20C.

Some areas in southern England may see temperatures peak at 21C, the maps suggest.

The rest of England will remain mild, seeing temperatures of 15C-17C in the southwest, with a chillier feel in the north of 12C. Wales and Northern Ireland will be lifted out of the plummeting temperatures, averaging around 13C-14C.

Despite Scotland just missing the warm temperatures likely to be experienced in the southern areas of the country, the nation will still feel milder than the recent frosty weeks seeing temperatures of 8C-12C.

According to the Met Office, Wednesday 16 could be "unsettled", with "some heavy rain" alongside the warm feel. Winds will slowly start to ease in the evening, leaving Thursday 17 to be a lot drier and brighter.

However, the west of England will be met with more rain and wind on Friday, continuing into next week.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast predicts that 19 October will cover all UK regions with rain at times, which could be heavy. Although, most of the rain, showers and strong winds are likely to be in the northwest with southeastern areas more often dry and bright.

Temperatures will continue to rise above average, with the brighter spells in southern areas feeling a lot warmer.

Later in October, there is a chance of more settled conditions developing, particularly in southern and eastern areas but with temperatures falling closer to average and some overnight frost and fog.

The Met Office says that given the time of year, fog could be slow to clear.
