Several schools across the UK have been shut today (Monday, September 23) as heavy rains batters parts of the UK. The Met Office has issued an amber warning that could affect millions of Brits today.
On Monday morning, forecasters issued an Amber weather warning, indicating that "heavy rain across parts of central and southern England" would persist until 9pm.
The Met Office reported that several areas could receive between 60mm and 80mm (2.36in and 3.15in) of rainfall.
The warning was set to last all day coming into force at 5am and lasting until 9pm Monday affecting Birmingham, Nottingham, Hull and Worcester among other areas.
The forecaster has warned that homes and businesses could face flooding.
In Wales, the south of England, North West England and up to the Middlesbrough area, a larger but less severe yellow rain warning is also in place until midnight.
On Friday, some homes in parts of Cheltenham were reported to have been affected by flooding, and Leisure at Cheltenham was closed until Sunday due to water damage.
There are also concerns that severe weather could leave some communities isolated.
On Friday, reports emerged of cars stranded in rising water on the A40. The Environment Agency had also issued flood alerts.
