It comes as the next month is set for a "good deal of dry and settled weather" for most of the country, the Met Office's long-range forecast noted.

High pressure will mostly remain, but the national weather agency's forecasters warned rainfall continues to be possible for some areas.

BBC weather experts also predict a warm start to the month in the days ahead, with their forecast for September 2 to September 8 stating: "Temperatures could remain above or even well above the seasonal average at first."

But they anticipate a shift towards "wetter and windier again" conditions as the month progresses.
