UK weather maps have revealed when Britons can expect thermometers to rocket once again in the coming weeks.

Maps suggest the first full week of August will be scorching hot, with some areas in southern England set for a short 102-hour heatwave with 29C highs.

The Greater London area, East Anglia and parts of the West Midlands are expected to take the brunt of the temperature change when warmer air starts coming in from August 5.

Hotter conditions are set to stay put across England's southeastern coast until Friday, August 9.

Parts of Wales and the eastern area of Devon with Somerset and Dorset could also see balmier temperatures with highs of 25C.

As for northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, maps suggest conditions will remain fairly average for the time of year, with highs of between 18C and 22C.

The Met Office noted the forecast for the final weeks of July and early August shows a likely split between the north and south.

Northwestern areas are likely to experience breezier weather with more clouds and a higher chance of occasional outbreaks.

The southeast can expect brighter and drier but there will still be the possibility of minor rainfall.

The forecast added: "Temperatures during this period will probably be close to or slightly above average overall, with the chance of some very warm conditions in the south and east at times."

Meteorologists also noted the forecast for the period past August 7 remains uncertain but suggested mixed conditions are likely.

They said: "No single weather type is expected to dominate through this period. Some spells of dry, settled weather will likely alternate with wetter, cloudier conditions at times.

"The wettest conditions will probably be in the northwest, with the southeast tending to be driest.

"Through the period as a whole, warmer than average conditions are more probable, perhaps with some short-lived hot spells."
